Dr. Navika Gangrade (she/her) is a Registered Dietitian and New York State Certified Dietitian-Nutritionist. She received her BS in Dietetics from the University of Delaware and her PhD in Nutrition from Cornell University, where she also completed her dietetic internship.
Navika has a special interest in clients with disordered eating/eating disorders and welcomes those of all backgrounds and identities who are looking to improve their relationships with food, movement, and their bodies.
She also has significant experience in child/adolescent nutrition and interest in working with clients with gastrointestinal concerns (e.g., irritable bowel syndrome, GERD, etc.), food allergies, and child feeding questions. Lastly, Navika is first generation and Asian American, and she is excited to work with those from Asian/South Asian backgrounds and immigrant families to provide culturally relevant nutrition care.
Navika practices through a weight-inclusive, Health at Every Size (HAES) lens. In her care, she addresses the intersectionality that exists surrounding wellness behaviors and considers the following groups of factors that influence relationships with food: individual (e.g., culture, gender, etc.), interpersonal (e.g., relationships with family, friends, etc.), organizational (e.g., home environment, neighborhood, etc.), and structural (e.g., fatphobia, racism, classism, etc.).
Navika has a variety of experiences in nutrition care that have influenced her counseling approach. Through her doctoral work, Navika led efforts to promote health and wellness among diverse groups. As such, her practice utilizes behavior change theories that work specifically on fostering self-efficacy, social support, and outcome expectations for positive relationships with wellness. Her doctoral work also provided a strong background in evidence-based nutrition, allowing her to keep abreast of the latest nutrition research and incorporate it into her practice.
Outside of her work at LK Nutrition, Navika conducts public health research that aims at diversifying the field of nutrition/dietetics at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. In her free time, she loves biking around Brooklyn, cooking, knitting, and yoga!
