HAES: Health at Every Size
The Health At Every Size (HAES) approach is a tenet of my nutrition counseling philosophy. The HAES approach supports people of all sizes in finding compassionate ways to take care of themselves. It promotes eating in a flexible and attuned manner that values pleasure and honors internal cues of hunger, satiety, and appetite. It encourages finding the joy in moving one’s body and being physically active. It also involves critical awareness by challenges scientific and cultural assumptions about body size and health. It values body knowledge and people’s lived experiences.
It is a "peace" movement.
